Okay, maybe there's more involved; I'll concede that.

But think about it. An accomplished professional of mixed race became the hero to upper-class white guys. If you've ever been a member of an exclusive country club (not that there are many non-exclusive country clubs out there), you know that, in general, the members are white, well-to-do and "traditional." (insert your own definition here)

We've all heard the off-color jokes and seen the sly looks. . . but Tiger was able to transcend the institutional bigotry that was enmeshed with the "golf" culture.. Remember, it wasn't all that long ago that select country clubs forbade incredible golfers (like Tiger) for reasons of appearance (and I'm not talking about loud plaid pants).

Tiger has had a monumental influence on not just that golfing thing, but culturally, as well. Traditionally white and rich men and women fell in behind Tiger and not only became fans, but also wanted to own a little piece of him (clubs, buicks, etc).

That sentiment and respect can be transferred to others who kinda look and act like him (sort of an optimistic stereotyping). Seems that the Tiger effect can be transferred to well-spoken, clean-living and smart people, no matter the venue. And thats a good thing.
