Every time I turn on CourtTV (its now called truTV or something like that, but, frankly, “CourtTV” is the perfect name! I see another nurse on trial for killing her husband.
I don’t know if its just coincidental, or noteworthy, but I have my own “armchair” theories about that. The way I see it, nurses are exposed to good and bad, but have a tendency to remember the good parts. . .otherwise, no one could do that job for very long.
I think that nurses see truly devoted, loving, and selfless husbands at the bedside of their wives, girlfriends and children, and even if they don’t realize it consciously, they are comparing what they see in the hospital to what they see at home. Its easy to feel resentful, then angry, then hurt and rejected, then (perhaps) homicidal, if you are exposed to men who never leave their wives’ bedside, who almost seem like selfless, caring, male Florence nightingale’s.I can imagine that they must admire these men for their dedication and for going “the extra mile” for their loved ones.
Then, let’s say the nurse goes home after a busy day, only to have her husband refuse to take out the trash, because he’s “tired.”
I guess expectations can lead to resentment?
