Its not just about Chance

Make it a point to find some time to watch the incredibly well-crafted Taking Chance, now making the rounds on HBO.It's one of those touching-but-not-corny movies that is good for many instances of your eyes welling up with tears.flag_cold_horzKevin Bacon stars as a "cubicle Marine" who volunteers as an escort for the remains of PFC Chance. I've always found myself reduced to tears when seeing the respect, dignity and genuine caring that follows the death of a soldier, police officer or firefighter . . but when its a member of our armed forces, it seems that "everyone" gets it.The tears (of grief, gratitude?) were rolling down my cheeks at the sight of commuters on a lonely highway in Nebraska, turning on their headlights and falling in behind the hearse, forming a spontaneous procession of civilians, who saw the flag-draped casket and knew what do.I've never lost a Marine, but my dad was in WWII. When he passed away over ten years ago, I remember feeling like the whole world should stop and acknowledge our loss.Perhaps showing the respect that we do for those who are escorted back home from the Middle East is a needed and appreciated catharsis.
