Extra Drama Not Required

Its been 33 years since the murder of nine year old Marsha Trimble, and the verdict of "guilty" came down today.

Ron Kuby, the colorful defense attorney, seemed to make an attempt to inject a line from a Hollywood script today when he asked the mother of murder victim Marsha Trimble:

"After all this time, do you think he (the murderer Jerome Barrett) even knows the truth?"

She replied: "Of course he does."

Such dignity, humility, wisdom and grace was displayed by Mrs. Trimble, who caused me to break down and shed a tear or two during her post-verdict interview with Jack Ford on Court TV. If you get a chance to hear this woman, pay attention.

Actually, it was a real question. I have represented plenty of people who have genuinely convinced themselves that they are innocent, especially when a great deal of time passes between the crime and the capture. People have a boundless capacity for self-deception. That being said, I, too, was incredibly impressed by Ms. Trimble Ritter.

Thanks for clarifying, Ron. . . and for visiting. Agree w/you about the self-deception thing. I think that we humans are constantly creating our own realities. You know, we’ve all seen instances where I have my reality, you have yours, and then there’s everyone else, and each reality becomes “the” reality if you let it.

I have CourtTV (a network name so fitting that I refuse to call it anything else!) in the background throughout the day, and it seems like there’s always something of interest going on.
