In the same way that [intlink id="135" type="post"]neighbors come together [/intlink]when faced with mother nature's focused wrath, the same sentiment and goodwill spreads across the world.

The pictures from Haiti today show a shocked, confused and decimated population which might be just an overture for what's to come.

I'm sure that the comparisons to Hurrican Katrina are already being made. If the US is able to act quickly and effectively to relieve the suffering in the dark corners of Haiti, it will serve as an indictment against the previous administration and their negligent actions in New Orleans.

The world used to love America when we were the Samaritans and Peace Corps workers who build wells, bring our search and rescue teams and comfort the sick and dying.

When I heard that China was joining in the effort to help out the earthquake victims in Haiti, they became, (if only for a second or two) not so horrible.
