Taking concept of "what have you done for me lately" to an absurd new level, Oak Tree/Santa Anita has announced that the stakes named for Lady's Secret will be renamed to honor Zenyatta. Zenyatta deserves a race named in her honor, but there's no good reason to kick Lady's Secret to the curb.TVG had a crew in Japan to bring us The Japan Cup and Japan Cup Dirt, and gave us a little peek into how the Japan Racing Association (JRA) manages their race tracks. What stood out for me is that the jockeys are "sequestered" at the race facility over the weekend. Another interesting fact: jockeys must weigh-in at the beginning of the card, and weigh-out after the card is completed. With the above in mind, I'm curious to know if the practice of "cutting weight" is either promoted or discouraged. Are there saunas and "flipping" toilets available in the jocks' room?
Maybe they prefer to work alone?
Nolite Timere saved ground on the turn, angled out slightly and was gaining on the winner when he finished third today. The only problem was that he was on auto-pilot after losing his rider (Jacqui Davis) about 100 yards out of the gate.Last week, a two-year olf horse named Rockin Rockstar actually crossed the finish line
first, sans jockey. That's almost unheard of for a lightly raced two year old.Maybe these horses are trying to tell their trainers something? I can imagine a situation where a horse just hates being the speed in the race and enjoys passing horses. . .
