Harsh winter especially challenging
Although our retired Thoroughbreds are thriving in this unusually rough winter, the Exceller Fund hay budget is suffering. With temperatures rarely edging past the freezing mark, we have been feeding extra hay rations daily
“Seeing horses roaming in snow covered fields is a wonderful sight but sometimes I see nothing but dollars signs,” said Exceller Fund Executive Director Nicole Smith. “We have allotted a good portion of donations to our hay budget but this year our needs exceeded the budget.”
The price of a bale of hay is comparable to a specialty coffee drink and will feed a horse for a day. So the next time you sip a hot latte, please consider how happy a horse would be for the cost of that beverage.

Reign Girl earned over $180,000 for her connections, and has two offspring that are currently racing.
