Running Styles of Horses I've Noticed

A.P. Indy (and many of his offspring) have a certain running style that jumps right out at you. Head low, neck extended; some A.P. Indy's look like those "peanut pusher" Quarter Horses that were "in fashion" at one time.

There's a horse running at Hollywood Park right now called "Sir Dave" (Untuttable - Queen Kaboom, by Sword Dancer) and his running style might epitomize the polar opposite-- His head and neck are very upright. I'm no math whiz, but if the A.P. Indy's have a neck angle of 20-30 degrees, Sir Dave might have his neck attached at 60 degrees. In a race yesterday, I swear he would have hit the board if he could get that big, beautiful head down a few degrees.

Sir Dave is by Untuttable (an Unbridled stallion) out of Queen Kaboom, by Sword Dancer. He is owned and was bred by Gilbert Campbell
