I'm bumping this post up for those of you who may have missed it. . . The Arkansas Derby winner, Line of David, ridden to victory by Jon Court (one of my favorite jockeys and a humble, "nice" guy), is out of a Capote mare. His gutsy "never say die" performance at Oaklawn certainly lived up to his sire's name (Lion Hart)
Too Bald, the daughter of Bald Eagle-Hidden Talent sold at the same auction as her foal, Exceller for a bargain price of $67,000.
After Exceller emerged as a brilliant race horse, Too Bald returned to the auction ring and sold to Franklin Groves, owner of North Ridge Farm for $1 million.
In 1983, Too Bald was in foal to Seattle Slew, the horse that her son, Exceller, had beaten by a nose in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. This son of Too Bald, CAPOTE, was purchased as a yearling in 1984, for $800,000. Capote won the 1986 Breeder's Cup Juvenille at Santa Anita, and Too Bald was awarded with the coveted Broodmare of the Year award.
Too Bald produced five stakes winners
Capote--62 stakes winners, including Boston Harbor and Matty G
Exceller--19 stakes winners
Baldski-- 49 stakes winners
American Standard-- Bluesthestandard, American Royale
Vaguely Hidden--full brother to Exceller
Other talented runners from Too Bald's line include Lake Country (CAN), D'Hallevant, General Royal and Admire Mambo
MaresĀ descended from Exceller have been bred to his brothers Capote, American Standard and Baldski
Bob and John, a freshman sire, emerged to carry on the Hidden Talent line. His first foals will arrive this year at the auctions
