It would be difficult to find a person who doesn't recognize this large bird as a swan. This mute swan and his mate hold court on a "bathing" lake in Eastern Massachusetts. The mute swan is considered an "introduced" species, just like the other birds you see in urban areas like starlings, house sparrows and rock doves. Although mute swans are beautiful and iconic, their presence has a negative effect on the bird species that actually belong in this habitat.
